A striking and technically challenging front door installation, featuring a large-format RK Pivot front door with side panels and matching gable screen glazing to the front elevation of a newly converted barn in Kingsdown, Wiltshire.
This bespoke project is another example of how at CBP we continue to provide high end front door solutions in architect-designed homes, using our luxury front door brands. Designed in close collaboration with the homeowner, this installation pairs visual impact with high performance—using premium materials and certified product quality throughout.
RK Pivot Front Doors – a true design statement
The main entrance to the barn features an RK Pivot door— with its distinctive offset opening action. Pivot doors are perfect when you want larger than normal door leaves and are capable of sizes up to and incredible 2000mm wide x 4000mm high, subject to technical considerations, in a single panel. This installation has an overall screen size of 3.4metres with the door leaf at 1400mmwide at 2400mm high. The overall gable screen with the door set, spans an impressive 5.6m overall.
This particular installation using the RK Pivot front door has two side panels on each side. At the top of the door is an aluminium clad steel beam, provided by the contract, insulated and clad in an aluminium pressing by us. The result is a full-height glazed gable screen, forming a true curtain wall system that fills the internal hallway with light while reinforcing the dramatic, contemporary character of the barn conversion. All glass is triple glazed throughout, using laminated and toughened glass.
These new aluminium Pivot doors uses a bespoke finish, called Shar Green Windy Nickel Silver. This is from the RK x Anka Collaboration, Anka being a specialist metal finishing company with a reputation for providing metals to yachts and high end homes. These hand applied metal surfaces add texture and luxury to the front door faces. The combination of texture metal, powder coated aluminium, contemporary styling and slim frame sightlines works perfectly with the oak-framed structural opening, natural stone and grey fascia on the roof. This special finish offers more than just appearance—it is durable, low-maintenance, and built to withstand weathering and wear.
Excellent Security and Thermal Performance
As with most RK Front Doors, excellent insulation comes as standard, with typical U-Values of around 0.72W/sq.mK. Security is also first class, with the doors tested to PAS24, Secured by Design Accreditation and giving you peace of mind high levels of protection from the elements and unwanted intruders.
Details That Combine Function and Minimalism
A low threshold comes as standard, providing accessibility and weather protection with a seamless floor finish. Also fitted is an architectural-grade stainless steel bar handle paired with a discreet cylinder lock to maintain a minimalist, refined external look.
The door set itself comprises automatic locking with the frame mounted keypad. This works not only with a fob, but also fingerprint recognition and wifi. Internall is a push button release for unlocking the door for exit. All locks on this particular door are electronic.
Internally, the same bar handle is mirrored, along with a thumbturn cylinder to allow easy locking without a key. As with all RK installations, thoughtful detailing and clean lines define the aesthetic while supporting practical use and long-term reliability.
